With an org-level Cloud API key and secret over HTTP Basic auth, used for read-only billing and inventory access. OhChimp reads your billed costs from the Billing API and lists your environments and Kafka clusters for context. It never stores application data, secrets, message contents, or workload payloads.
Does OhChimp need write access or see my message data?
No. OhChimp uses a read-only org-level Cloud API key and reads billing metadata plus the environment and cluster inventory. It never reads or stores the messages flowing through your topics, your secrets, or workload contents.
What Confluent costs can OhChimp actually reduce?
It reads your real billed spend by product and resource, then flags Dedicated clusters with low projected KAFKA spend that may fit a cheaper Basic or Standard tier, plus managed connectors that bill for CONNECT while their Kafka cluster sits idle. Who applies the changes, and can they be rolled back?
You do. Each fix is a reviewable plan with a confidence score, a risk level, and rollback steps. Nothing changes until you click apply, and OhChimp applies the matching code and infrastructure changes together. A tier or connector change always confirms throughput and networking needs first.
How are the savings verified, and what does it cost?
Against your real Confluent bill. A plan is marked VERIFIED only after 7 or more days, a drop of at least 10%, and 3 consecutive positive checks. Until then it stays flagged "not implemented."
