Elastic Cloud Cost Optimization
Cut your Elastic Cloud bill. OhChimp reads per-deployment costs, flags heavy data transfer, and tiers hot-only storage to cheaper warm, cold, and frozen.
How does OhChimp connect to Elastic Cloud?
With an organization-level Elastic Cloud API key that has the billing admin role. OhChimp sends it over Elastic's ApiKey authorization scheme and makes read-only GET calls to the Billing Costs Analysis API and the deployment inventory and topology endpoints. It never stores application data, secrets, or workload contents.
Does OhChimp need write access or see my data?
No. OhChimp uses a read-only organization API key and reads billed costs and deployment configuration only. It reads dollar amounts per deployment and the node topology, never your indices, documents, secrets, or workload contents.
What Elastic Cloud costs can OhChimp actually reduce?
It reads a per-deployment cost breakdown split into capacity, data transfer, and storage, rolls that up into an organization-wide dimension split, flags deployments where data transfer runs at 20% or more of the bill, and flags deployments running a large hot tier with no warm, cold, or frozen tier, where index lifecycle management can move cold data to cheaper hardware.
What is an Elastic Consumption Unit (ECU), and how does OhChimp read them?
Elastic Cloud meters all usage in Elastic Consumption Units (ECUs), and one ECU has a nominal value of $1.00. Each ECU rolls up the same dimensions OhChimp already splits your bill into: capacity (RAM-hours), data transfer (inter-node traffic and data out), and snapshot storage. OhChimp reads your billed costs per deployment through Elastic's Billing Costs Analysis API, breaks them back into those dimensions, and raises plans against the specific levers it covers: data transfer that runs 20% or more of a deployment's bill, and a large hot tier with no warm, cold, or frozen tier to fall back on. The savings are measured in the same units your Elastic Cloud invoice already reports.
Who applies the changes, and can they be rolled back?
You do. Each fix is a reviewable plan with a confidence score, a risk level, and rollback steps. Nothing changes until you click apply, and OhChimp applies the matching code and infrastructure changes together.
How are the savings verified, and how is OhChimp priced?
Against your real Elastic Cloud bill. A plan is marked VERIFIED only after 7 or more days, a drop of at least 10%, and 3 consecutive positive checks, and stays flagged "not implemented" until then. Pricing is a flat monthly fee with no cut of your savings, plus a year-one ROI guarantee: a full refund of subscription fees if it does not pay for itself in your first 12 months on a paid plan.
